Lesson 3 of 7 · Essential
Making War on Land
How do armies move, and take territory?
11:30 · running time
Ticks itself once you've watched nearly all of it.
In a nutshell
- 1 CP a space, 2 CP over a pass
- Battle: units + leader, defender +1, hits on 5 or 6, ties to the defender
- Walls: withdraw, siege, then assault on a later go
- Take ground: control and assault need a line of communication

New terms
- Key
- A square city. Each one you hold uncovers victory points on your power card, and often a card.
- Formation
- The units and leaders that move and fight together.
- Intercept
- Jump into a fight next door before it starts.
- Avoid battle
- Slip away to a space next door instead of fighting.
- Defender die
- The side being attacked always rolls one extra die.
- Fortified space
- A key or fortress. It must be besieged to be taken.
- Line of communication
- Spaces you control, no enemy units, no unrest, back to one of your own keys or fortresses.
- Unrest
- Trouble in a space. No line of communication runs through it, and a key in unrest doesn’t count.
